It started with a serum recommendation that made my skin worse.
In 2024, I sent a routine photo to a popular AI dermatology app. The response was confident, articulate, and completely wrong — it flagged my hyperpigmentation as melasma and recommended a 4% hydroquinone protocol. For Fitzpatrick V skin in Nairobi humidity, that’s a fast track to rebound darkening. I knew it. The model didn’t.
A week later I called our dermatologist co-founder, a clinician at a Westlands clinic. She had been watching the same problem from the other side — patients arriving with darkened skin and irritation patterns that traced back, almost always, to a routine an AI had suggested.
So we built Qutis.
